Terms and conditions
How our estimates, quotes and guarantees work, and the terms covering this website.
About these terms
These terms cover the use of this website and the general basis on which Devon Build and Carpentry provides estimates and quotes. The specific terms for your project are those set out in the written documents we issue for that job.
Estimates and quotes
Your initial estimate is free and given as an estimate rather than a fixed price, because material costs move and older properties hide surprises. A contingency is included and explained to you before you commit.
Producing a full, itemised quote carries a fee. That fee is refunded in full if you go ahead with the work.
Who we work for
We work with private clients only. We do not take on developer contracts, which keeps the number of live jobs small and the standard where it should be.
Insurance and guarantees
We carry £5 million public liability cover and £10 million employers' liability cover. All work comes with a 12-month no-quibble workmanship guarantee: if something is not right, we put it right.
New builds additionally carry a 10-year structural warranty and a 12-month snagging process following handover.
Certified trades and building control
Certified work is carried out by Part-P registered electricians and gas-registered plumbing engineers, and structural work is designed with our structural engineer. On notifiable work we can run the building control application through a private building control company for a fee, or you can apply directly to your council.
Payment
Payment terms vary with the size and length of the job and are agreed with you before work starts. On longer projects this is typically staged, for example bi-weekly invoices with seven days to pay.
We accept bank transfer, which we prefer, or card payment.
Website content
The content on this website is provided for general information about our services. It is not a formal offer or a substitute for a written estimate or quote for your property.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales.
